How we do it

Richard Hartnell, creative director and founder, leads the design process and works with his team based in the UK and Netherlands. Blending traditional advertising techniques with the psychology and science of communication his 30 year consistent track record of award winning projects is put to your test.

Acting as your creative interpreters, we partner with you to develop your bespoke marketing tools. In our methodology we seek to stimulate the senses and reach the hearts and minds of your audience. Our inventive ingenuity knows no bounds.

Our management team, led by managing director, Will Chamberlain-Webber, orchestrates a network of writers, artists, programmers, engineers, and specialist subcontractors to assist us to develop and deliver appropriate hybrid solutions that can help you punch above your weight.

Through our links with universities and research faculties we offer clients the latest expertise and thinking in experiential design and media technology. We frequently work in partnership with clients own brand teams, existing agencies or exhibition suppliers to develop bespoke marketing tools to augment the overall marketing activities.

Our story

HCC was Founded in 1992 by Richard Hartnell, designer, artist, writer and inventor. Today he leads on most of our experiential projects.

Richard graduated from the Central School of Art and design (now Central St. Martins) in 1976 where he studied graphic design under the mentorship of Richard Hollis a highly influential figure in the world of British design.

Following a career working for London design agencies on brand design and multimedia, Richard was appointed by Pentagram partner David Hillman to implement a Corporate Identity for The Royal College of Nursing. While developing this work, which was instrumental in changing the public perception of nursing in the UK, he pioneered interactive live marketing as part of the wider brand communication strategy.

After gaining a number of communication awards for the RCN, many of these attributed to best exhibition at the party political conferences, Richard set up his own agency, Hartnell Creative Communication Limited, (HCC) to offer campaign, brand identity and issue communication with his own twist.

  • Whether it's for the European Parliament, Westminster or the annual UK Party Conferences, Richard has designed and built compelling stands that deliver RNIB's key messages across eye health, accessible information, transport and disability rights. Always engaging and frequently award winning, Richard's work has helped to secure many important campaigning successes for RNIB.
